Definitions

Defined terms carry a consistent meaning across every part of the Rules, and are reused rather than restated.

Plain-language summary

A short glossary of the words the Awards use precisely. These describe structure only, and none of them sets an eligibility requirement.

Plain-language summaries are provided for clarity. Where an approved formal rule exists, that formal rule governs in the event of any inconsistency.

Award#

A formal recognition conferred by the Film & Stage Awards in an approved category.

Awards Year#

The cycle to which a rulebook, eligibility framework and set of results apply. No Awards year has yet been established.

Category#

A single award belonging to exactly one world, Film or Stage, and governed by that world's eligibility.

Discipline#

A grouping of related craft within a world. A discipline concept may exist in both worlds while its categories remain distinct.

Eligible Work#

Work that satisfies the published eligibility criteria for an Awards year. The criteria are not yet approved.

Entry#

The act by which work is placed before the Awards for consideration, where the approved mechanism for a category requires one.

Consideration#

The stage at which eligible work is assessed. Consideration confers no nomination.

Nominee#

A person, production or organisation formally recognised at the nomination stage in a category.

Recipient#

A nominee determined to receive the award in a category following the approved selection process.

Voter#

A person entitled under the approved rules to participate in selection. Voter entitlement has not been established.

Conflict of Interest#

A relevant interest capable of affecting, or appearing to affect, a person's participation in an Awards decision.

Campaign Activity#

Activity intended to influence Awards consideration, distinct from advertising, sponsorship and editorial coverage.

Production#

A single screen or live work, together with the credited contributions that made it.

Film#

The world of the Awards concerning work created and presented for the screen.

Stage#

The world of the Awards concerning work created and presented in live performance.

Special Recognition#

Recognition conferred outside the competitive category structure under an approved framework.
